Jake Shears takes to the stage all dragged up for Bent

FORMER Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears will appear on stage in a new LA production of Martin Sherman’s play Bent.

The play, which starred Ian McKellen in its original 1979 West End production and Richard Gere in the 1980 Broadway production, is a story that revolves around the persecution of gay men in Nazi Germany.

Shears plays the role of a drag queen and nightclub owner Greta.

“It’s challenging on a lot of levels,” Shears said in an interview with The Advocate.

“I’ve never really done drag before. It’s new for me in quite a few different ways. And the learning curve has been really crazy, you know, but it’s been awesome, because everybody’s — like, all my fellow cast members — have just been really, really, really supportive.”

Bent officially opens July 26 at LA’s Center Theater.
