Kathy Griffin to ignite Oz

It has been three years since Kathy Griffin graced Australia with her fiery hair and equally fiery wit, and now she will be returning to perform two special shows in Sydney and Melbourne later this year.

The two-time Emmy winner, NY Times bestselling author and Grammy nominee has made her mark on the world by using her VIP status to gather the best in Hollywood gossip and celebrity embarrassment.

Nobody is safe, which begs the question why her VIP status has never been revoked? Kathy has manage to climb atop the throne, and crowned herself the queen of the fearless and peerless. Her brazen stand up shows have made her just quite a few enemies in Hollywood and political circles alike, while simultaneously garnering a loyal fan base as well. Many of which are members of the gay community.

Perhaps it is her bitchy forked-tongue remarks or her overt sexuality that gay fans can associate with and find so appealing. Then again, it could be her unwavering support for HIV research, her extremely vocal protests against Prop 8 and her work to push for marriage equality that draws in her band of very merry men.

Two such fans even wrote to Griffin once gay marriage was made legal in New York and asked her to take on the role of minister in their wedding, which she of course did without apprehension. Griffin became ordained through an online church to officiate at the New York wedding of the fans.

Griffin has also been nominated and won many awards and approbation within the LGBTI community, including being presented with the prestigious Vanguard Award at the 2009 GLAAD Media Awards. The Trevor Project awarded Griffin with Lifetime Honoree at the 2011 gala for her tremendous work with the LGBTQ community.

For those of you who don’t follow the Who’s Who of gay icons, Griffin may be most recognisable from her roles on a few television shows, most memorably Seinfeld – where she created recurring character Sally Weaver. This then led to her landing the supporting role of Vicki Groener, on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan.

Her flare and forked tongue were quickly noticed, and Griffin’s reality show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, debuted to rave reviews and won Kathy an Emmy.

So if you like your comedy fast paced, and a tad on the vicious side, you wont want to miss these shows. They are guaranteed to leave the audiences aching with laughter, and step on a few toes in the process.
