Ke$ha rules Last.fm

Rumoured 2011 Sydney Mardi Gras performer Ke$ha was named Last.fm’s most played artist of 2010 – further cementing the diva’s status as pop music’s hottest property.

The music-based social networking site has more than 40 million members and is generally considered to be a better indication of what people are actually listening to than charts, which are skewed by illegal downloads and radio airplay in some countries.

According to Last.fm, Ke$ha’s tunes were played 15.9 million times between October 1, 2009 and October 31 October, 2010. That’s almost double her nearest pop rival Rihanna, who was given 8.8 million spins across the same period.

Bringing up the rear – no pun intended – is Adam Lambert with 6.7 million plays.

Not bad when you consider he beat out names like Madonna, Britney and Lady Gaga!

Here’s the full list:

1. Ke$ha – 15.9 million
2. Mumford & Sons – 11.6 million
3. Arcade Fire – 11. 1 million
4. Gorillaz – 10.5 million
5. Vampire Weekend – 10 million

  1. Ke$ha??? If this is the true indication of what listeners want (as you pointed out in the article), then I have no hope in the future of music industry. Period.
