FORMER Sydney Convict rugby union player and now Calgary-based bobsledder Simon Dunn has been voted the world’s hottest man by the readers of the UK’s Attitude magazine.

Beating Magic Mike star Channing Tatum and One Direction’s Liam Payne who came second and third respectively, the list of celebrities that Dunn beat in the magazine’s annual Hot 100 list also includes Tom Daley in fourth, Chris Evans in fifth, Chris Pratt in sixth, Zac Efron in seventh, and David Beckham in eighth.

Simon Dunn is regarded as the first openly-gay bobsledder and is now based in Calgary, Canada where he is training to represent Australia in the next Winter Olympics.

The full list will be published in the next issue of Attitude on July 22.

Dunn was crowned the winner of this year’s Hot 100 at an official party at London’s Mondrian Hotel.

“As one of the few gay sportsmen, he’s won legions of fans with his comments about homophobia in sport and only recently spoke out against the Australian government’s lack of support for gay marriage,” Attitude editor Matthew Todd said in a press release.

“With an attainable body type that is very popular with our readers, people all over the world have voted for him in droves.”

Dunn criticised Australia’s lack of marriage equality in a previous interview with Attitude.

“One day I would like to meet the right guy, settle down and have kids,” he said.

“But I will only do this when I can get married in front of friends and family in my home country. If I can represent that country in sport I should be able to marry the person I love.

“I can’t believe that now the US has passed same-sex marriage, my country still hasn’t caught up with the rest of the world, which makes me angry.”

Speaking to the Star Observer in December, Dunn explained that he hoped his popularity would help reduce homophobia in sport.

“A major part for me also is that it breaks down stereotypes [in sport],” he said.

“If one kid growing up realises their sexuality isn’t an issue in the sporting environment, then that’s a win in itself.”
