STI check – Chlamydia and HIV

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection that can infect the dick & arse and is the most common STI in Australia.

If you are HIV positive, chlamydia can spread to the prostate, balls, dick and lining of the arse causing pain, discharge and swelling.

As with any sexually transmitted infection, chlamydia increases the amount of HIV in the dick, arse and bodily fluids. This can increase the likelihood of passing on HIV to a negative partner.

Most positive guys have regular blood tests, but these don’t always include tests for STIs such as chlamydia, unless you ask your doctor. Get tested for STIs at the same time as your regular HIV check-up.

The antibiotics given to treat chlamydia do not interfere with HIV medications.
