1930’s Mickey Anti-Gay

AN old Disney comic strip of Mickey Mouse that depicts him as a homophobe has been doing the rounds on the internet this week.

Created by Walt Disney in 1931, the comic strip shows Mickey visiting his neighbour Kat Nipp. However, he gets nervous when he sees a burly cat-like creature walk out of Nipp’s shack.

mickeymouse2The cat character prances off with battered eyes and limp wrist claiming that he in fact is not “Mr. Nipp” but just the “baker’s boy who bringth gooieth to Mr. Nipp” – Possibly a 1930s stereotypical gay-lisp goodies of saying “I bring the goodies”.

With that, the shocked-turned-angry Mickey kicks the cat-like character on the behind and says he had one for Mr. Nipp too, calling him a “Big cream-puff inhaler”.

Fortunately for Disney 80 years on, Mickey and the other characters under the Disney umbrella sing a different and more inclusive song.
