Coming out gay over pasta

PASTA company Findus has released what is being called Italy’s first gay-friendly advertisement showing a mother, son and “roommate” sharing a meal together with the son eventually revealing that his roommate is actually his boyfriend.

In the ad, the son says that Gianni is not “just my roommate, he’s my boyfriend,” to which the mother pats him on the hand saying, “honey, I knew that already!”

The ad is a contrast to the controversy caused from Barilla chief executive Guido Barilla last year, who said he “would never do an advert with a homosexual family.”

“If the gays don’t like it they can go an eat another brand. For us the concept of the sacred family remains one of the fundamental values of the company,” he also said.

Turn the clock forward to almost a year and the ad from Findus is a stark contrast to the time when there were calls for the LGBTI community to boycott Barilla pasta.
