Irish blogger reduced to tears from nan’s heartwarming response on gay marriage

IRISH YouTube blogger James Mitchell was reduced to tears in one of his recent YouTube videos as he called his grandmother ahead of Ireland’s referendum on same-sex marriage in May.

Mitchell shared the video last week as part of an online campaign called “Ring Your Granny”, which was started by students from Trinity College in Dublin in an effort to promote same-sex marriage awareness as Ireland votes on proposals to introduce same-sex marriage on May 22.

In the video, Mitchell’s nan’s response was so heart-warming that it reduced him to tears after he asked her to pledge her support to the cause.

“In May there’s a referendum coming up when people are being asked to vote, that affects me very personally. I want to make sure that I can marry the person I love,” he told her.

She replied: “I have been behind you 100 per cent from the day that you came out. You know that. I have always been your number one fan because you’re so brave.”
