Renee’s talking about a revolution

After delivering 156 sessions, Bitch has hit the three-year weekly anniversary and is moving to a monthly Friday event at the Mars Lounge.

Event organiser Renee Schembri said she was enormously proud of what Bitch had achieved to date, including uncovering some amazing up and coming DJs, performers and musicians.

The event brought a fresh feel to the strip with the launch of Bitch back in 2005, and now the event is moving forward, she said.

We decided it was time for a change. It’s a really exciting and positive decision, time to evolve, time for the next chapter -¦ as we get ready to release The Bitch Revolution.

The first Bitch Revolution will be held on Saturday 5 July at the Oxford Art Factory. Bitch favourite DJ Sista P will be mixing all night before she heads off on a six-month international tour. Schembri said Bitch set the benchmark for lesbian dance nights.

When we started out doing Bitch as a weekly event, it was aimed at filling a gap in the girls’ scene. At the time there weren’t many dedicated, weekly girls’ nights, she said.

I feel like the scene is at a place now where the girls have a lot of safe and dedicated nights to go to. I truly believe we had a responsibility to continue our night as there were not many options for us girls to go and feel comfortable, a place that was ours, week after week.

The Bitch Revolution will kick off at the Oxford Art Factory on 5 July. The new monthly Bitch nights at Mars Lounge will start in August. Details: www.bitchnews.com.au.
