THE Turnbull Government has announced it has put $160 million aside for a plebiscite on same-sex marriage in its 2016/17 Federal Budget.

It was announced in a statement by Attorney-General Senator George Brandis and Minister for Justice Michael Keenan.

People took to social media to criticise the decision.

Greens senator Richard Di Natale described the announcement as “another letdown from Malcolm Turnbull”.

“#Budget2016 locks in a divisive, unnecessary marriage equality plebiscite,” Senator Di Natale tweeted.

  1. As a gay man I am taking a stand right now in boycotting both the federal election and prerequisite! I am also boycotting all families births, deaths and marriages of heterosexual people! I am sick and tired of being a political and social pawn for this corrupt Liberal government who is a whole lot of trouble getting $100 billion in deficit! I personally met Malcolm Turnbull years ago and he was a good man, but today I am very disappointed in the way conservatives have raped him and now control him into there policies he personally does not believe in. He is just a puppet of the Liberal party!

  2. There’s no way Turnbull can justify spending $160 million dollars on Tony Abbott’s plebiscite.

Marriage equality could be achieved through a parliamentary vote and the plebiscite money better spent on Safe Schools or other initiatives.

  3. A 160 million for apartheid, that is what a plebiscite is. The campaign to liscence hate speech will greet you on bill boards above the idiot eyeballing you, and on your way home from another friends funeral it will blast between the soothing radio station you tuned into.

The U.K. has seen a sweeping rise in hate crimes after their debate about marriage equality with some resulting in death. The budget is a killer, an act of shame that belongs in a museum next to the White Australia policy.
