Mallard puts Liberals into election action

Shayne Mallard

Councillor Shayne Mallard announced his Liberal action team this week to take on Independent Clover Moore and Labor’s Meredith Burgman in September’s local government elections.

The announcement was made in front of a backdrop of expensive car dealerships on William St as a comment on the current council’s spending habits.

Mallard stressed the need for finan-cial prudence in a time of economic uncertainty while presenting his team of nine candidates as the fiscally responsible alternative to Moore’s Independents team.

My Liberal action team of-fers a real choice for voters. We will give the council accountability and balance on what could be the most financially undisciplined council in the history of Sydney, Mallard said.

Clover Moore’s council is burning through $180,000 a day more than it gets in ratepayer revenue. Think of this as the council indulging in a new, top of the range Mercedes every day for the next four years.

To counter this perceived financial irresponsibility, Mallard is standing with a team of candidates with strong backgrounds in finance and business.

Edward Mandla runs his own executive search business while Georgina Anderson works as an independent mortgage broker. Adrian Bartels runs his own finance broking business in Kings Cross and Jeff Koid is a financial adviser.

Others on the team include David Evans, who formerly operated a software consultancy service for blue chip companies; Giovanni Frischmann, who is completing his Bachelor of Arts; Glenn Phillips, a Newtown solicitor; and Rebecca Lau, who is the director of a Sydney-based fashion company.

The Liberal action team will campaign on three major issues -” restoring business confidence, building safer neighbourhoods and fixing parking and traffic problems while hoping to win voters over with their business credentials.

The real choice is between our middle ground, mainstream team or a cluster of hardline, big spending, left wing politicians, Mallard said.

I do not like liberals (they are anti-gay). I like Labor (they provide us with reform)

  2. Colin said,

I can’t believe Clover Moore is sending the city broke as well as letting Oxford St drift into a homophobic hellhole, where ‘community’ members risk being assaulted because of intolerance of our sexuality.

I see that ACON chief Clayton says, -œThere needs to be a zero tolerance policy towards homophobia. But I thought Clover Moore promised that when she was elected last time. Where is all this city money going I ask Ms Moore?

Unlike Paul, I think we ought to think about our vote on 13 September more carefully.

Clover Moore has done more for the gay community than all of the labor and liberal party put together. She has proven her support again and again. She has done a lot to help the problems on Oxford Street. Unfortunately she is not responsible for the nsw police or the state government. If she were, we might actually get some real action on Oxford Street. Clover provides the only really credible option for the gay community’s votes on September 13.

A vote for the Liberals = a vote for homophobia!!!

Shayne Mallard has done nothing on council. He has not achieved anything for the Gay community. What has he ever actually done to make Oxford Street safer or better for our us? Clover has a long track record of working hard for us. Unfortunately, she is not responsible for the nsw police or the state government. If she was, we would have a very different Oxford Street today.

Its to bad the guys a Liberal otherwise I might have voted for him.

Can anybody tell me one thing Mallard has achieved on council
over the last four years??? Just one achievement..just one

  8. Giovanni said,

Chris, unlike the ALP and Clover Moore, Shayne Mallard defends the gay community with deeds as well as words. He brought an action plan to the council to combat homophobic violence on Oxford Street with much-needed CCTV cameras and more community policing – a plan rejected by Clover and her councillors.

Ithink Shayne Mallard has done very little for anyone but himself. Who does he actually represent? As a Liberal, he is part of a party machine that represents the interests of business over ordinary working class Austalians. Would Shayne have supported Workchoices??? Im sure he would have… Its clear that the Liberal party do not care about the gay community. They do not celebrate diversity in our community, nor has Shayne achieved anything on Council. Best to vote for Clover Moore’s Independent Team in the September elections. At least they get things done!!
