The unstoppable might of Australian sportsmen and women will be celebrated at party at the Midnight Shift this Saturday 23 August, held to commemorate both the victors from the GLBT community and our athletes’ triumphs in Beijing.
Saturday’s event will be an all-encompassing celebration of the sporting way of life, with people coming together to welcome home the triumphant Convicts, celebrate Jim Box for his achievements as a triathlete and partake in some Olympics watching.
Team Sydney president Geoff Radford said the evening is sure to have a jubilant mood.
“We’ll be welcoming back the Convicts from their win at the Bingham Cup while also celebrating Jim Box, who won the World Championship Sprint Triathlon in Canada,” he said.
“While all of that’s going on we’ll have the Olympics on in the background as well so it really will be a night for us to celebrate our community and maybe even draw in some newcomers.”
With the Convicts and their mascot Maxi Shield taking centre stage on the evening, there are sure to be more than just a few ring-ins drawn to the event.
Convicts President Iain Jepsen said the night of celebrations will be all about the fans.
“In conjunction with the Midnight Shift and Team Sydney we will be holding a night of celebrations, in appreciation for the unyielding support given to the Sydney Convicts over the past 12 months by our sponsor, the GLBT community and our supporters,” he said.
“It’s vital that we try to maintain and improve on our sporting community connections. The Convicts are one of the strongest clubs in the world and we couldn’t do it without community support.”
The celebration evening will be held on Saturday 23 August at the Midnight Shift, from 8pm to 10pm. There will be discounted beer and free food so everyone is encouraged to arrive on time.
