Violence continues

Police are still tallying up the fights that broke out across Surry Hills, Kings Cross and the CBD over the weekend, in which one man was stabbed, several left with head injuries and several more charged with brawling.

But Oxford St and Taylor Square avoided the worst effects and instead had only a handful of minor incidents.

Reports that Oxford St traffic was stopped because of a Taylor Square brawl were incorrect, Surry Hills Police crime prevention officer Kate Baker said, but the frequent high visibility policing operations would continue.

A number of people were ejected from venues in the area and police issued several move-on orders. One man was arrested and given a infringement notice after being ejected from the Taylor Square Hotel. Another woman was charged after punching an Oxford St venue staff member.

“Clearly we’re focusing our high visibility policing on those areas, and that has an effect,” Senior Constable Baker said.

A brawl on Sunday morning towards Hyde Park resulted in one man being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and another being treated at the scene by ambulance officers. City Central Police are still hoping to hear from anyone with further information.

Meanwhile a man is in a serious condition in St Vincent’s Hospital after being stabbed near Kings Cross station in the early hours of Sunday morning. Kings Cross Police are continuing the investigation.

Its amazing what some people would resort to for a hit of “Drugs” in the early hours of the morning!

  2. Brad said,

None of this happens in the gay clubs, its all the straight people that cause all the fights and yet its us who has the stupid 2am lock outs I am so sick of having to deal with everything the destructive hetrosexual gene/ego creates.

  3. dannyboy said,

I agree brad, it is totally unfair that gay venues are being targeted.
I have never once seen a fight in a gay venue, yet see and hear of them constantly if i go to a str8 club, or merely walk down oxford street and see a group of drunken str8 guys becoming agressive.
    This is bullshit!

  4. Oliver said,

Simple, just close down the straight venues on Oxford Street! Hello! Girlfriend!!!!!

Few fights in the mixed and straight venues of Newtown, Erskineville or Enmore also- Australia could learn a lot from the drinking culture of gay Sydney and the Inner West. It’s the football driven competitive machismo culture that leads to the problem- the always trying to get one over on someone so you can prove to your mates what a hero you are.

    Sunday. 9.11.08.
It’s not only just pubs where violence against gays occur

I am pretty upset today as it was such a lovely day I decided to go to Boy Charlton for a swim as this will be my only Sunday off before Xmas.

To put it mildly, it was crowded and I could see that the fast lanes were fast so I got into a Medium lane.
But, after 6 laps of having to overtake breaststroke swimmers going slower than their counterparts in the Slow lane I stupidly said to a woman after having to overtake for a 5th time to please get into the ‘Fuc**ng slow lane…..Well, never do this as her friend jumped on me sore using much worse language and tried to push me under and drown me.

When I fought back the lifeguard came to the deep end to break it up whereby my assailant continued to swear and use the C word to which the Lifeguard and 2 other men tried to restrain him.

I then got back to the shallow end and went to get out except he then came up and really got into it!! Started really taking the piss out of me being gay and doing a performance that was over the top but nevertheless brought the entire pool to a standstill and to put it mildly extremely upsetting and humiliating.
Not sure what I want to do about this as he threatened to wait and bash me after I left!!

I am very upset and feel that staff did little to stop him let alone send him off the premises and I feared for my safety as I don’t own a car and walked to the pool alone.
Needless to say I am reluctant to go back there after swimming there since I was 12!! I am sad and very hurt.

Pretty simple mate, next time don’t be an asshole when you’re going for a swim.

As much as her friend overreacted, you caused the problem in the first place…

  8. Oliver said,

Mark, if its crowded honey, you have to compromise a little. What did you expect the lifeguard to do?? If you said the “F” word to me like that I wouldve reacted just like those people did. Dont be a little selfish sook Mark cause you get no sympathy from Me!!!

  9. billy said,

    You caused the problems.
Next time dont take it so bloody seriously.
The pool lane is not yours.
Go there for a swim and relax,so what if they are swimming slow, mind your own bloody business.
