Tasmania rights talks

With human rights discussions ocurring around Australia, those across Bass Strait are also talking before the National Human Rights Consultation hits the Apple Isle.

As the human rights talkfest left Melbourne last week, Tasmanians were preparing to take part in local discussions.

The consultation roadshow hits Launceston on April 30, then Hobart on May 4.

The Hobart Community Legal Service and the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group will convene forums on the rights of same-sex couples in both Tasmanian and federal law.

The forum will involve legal experts in areas of same-sex parenting and will cover topics such as formal recognition of relationships, social security and other entitlements. Experts will give an overview of their areas and will be available to answer questions.

The same-sex relationships forum in Hobart is on Wednesday April 22, 6 to 7.30pm in the meeting room of the McDougall Building, Ellerslie Rd, Battery Point.

In Launceston, the forum is on Wednesday April 29, room 11, Adult Education Building, 8 High St, 6pm.
