ACON’s three-year vision

ACON CEO Stevie Clayton has declared a drop in HIV rates as a key goal for their new three-year strategic plan.

The Strategic Plan 2009-12 will see ACON extend its role as a general gay and lesbian health service while maintaining its focus on HIV prevention and assistance programs. HIV rates have been stable for 11 years, and we’re saying that’s not good enough. We’re committing ourselves to finding a way to bring that number down, Clayton said.

Shifting the organisation’s focus from self-identifying gay men to incorporate men who have sex with men in preventative strategies would be a significant step for the organisation, Clayton said.

ACON president Mark Orr announced an increased focus on lesbian health and aged care. We want to re-invigorate the culture of care in the community and see it developed and put into other areas of health care, he said.
