The Luncheon Club celebrated its 16th style on Monday with a special lunch, lots of guest speakers, a few awards and a whole lot of fun.
The Luncheon Club was founded in November 1993 by Carole Ann King. King threw what she intended as a one-off lunch at the Exchange Hotel in Darlinghurst for people living with HIV/ AIDS.
After working as an AIDS carer and losing friends to the disease, she hoped to give something back to the community.
Eighty-nine people turned up and they were all saying -”same time, same place next week”, and from there the meal and support service was born.
King stood down from the service last year, with ACON and BGF teaming up to ensure the community institution continued.

An important charity doing much needed vital work in our community.
A dedicated and hard working team of workers and volunteers involved with the BGF Luncheon Club are to be admired for their selflessness and sense of duty when caring for others in need.
What is striking about the LC is the generous spirit of it’s volunteers toward their community.
We all picked up the same habits as children,”it is the habit of eating”.
And that habit has stayed with me all of my life thus far.
Congratulations to Carole Ann King for starting this important work all those long years ago.
Congratulations to BGF for continuing her work.
In conclusion I want to say I was touched by the kindness shown to me at the 16TH birthday celebratory luncheon yesterday.
Happy Birthday to the Luncheon Club.
