New runners club

The Sydney Frontrunners (SFR) will form a new club in the western suburbs called the Parramatta Frontrunners (PFR). Based at Parramatta Park, the group’s first meeting is on December 5.
“We hope to see PFR up and running very quickly. Over the years we have had lots of people ask about a run club in the west,” Frontrunners secretary Wayne Morgan said.
Members will meet at 8am for a longer run or 9am for a 4K run or walk. Participants from the Western Sydney community, Sydney Frontrunners and the Defence Gay and Lesbian Information Service will also take part in the launch.
“As the club grows there will be an increase in regular runs — SFR started off with two runs per week and as membership grew we increased to our present four sessions per week,” Morgan said.
“The new club will gain automatic membership of IFR [International Frontrunners] and probably Team Sydney. With the Gay Games in Cologne next year the club has its first major event in sight.”
The group’s meeting point is at the Queens Rd entrance to Parramatta Park, near Westmead train station. The event will be followed by a sausage sizzle and light refreshments.
The club hopes to eventually stand on its own with interaction between the two Frontrunner clubs.
“We hope we will be able to create two separate clubs working towards interclub competitions and social activities,” PFR spokesman Aaron Ryan said.
“While the primary focus will be on the club’s run days, we will definitely join forces and look towards competing in community-run events and potential fundraising activities.”
