Hope for Molly

Molly Meldrum has shown signs of recovery after opening his eyes for the first time in hospital since his fall from a ladder at his home last week while putting up Christmas decorations.

Meldrum’s brother confirmed the news this morning, saying the family was cautiously optimistic after he responded to a nurse request to open his eyes.

Meldrum suffered fractures to his skull, ribs, shoulder and vertebrae and a punctured lung.

His latest CAT scan showed pressure on his brain had begun to ease.

Friends and fans of Molly Meldrum have been invited to show their support for the much-loved Melbourne identity by sending an SMS to the Big Screen at Melbourne’s Federation Square.

The text messages will appear on the screen and be provided to the hospital in a gesture of public support.

The SMS Molly Support initiative will be launched on the Big Screen at Fed Square on Wednesday December 21 at 11am

Fans and supporters are invited to send an SMS to 0428 520 347 between 9am – 12.30pm on Wednesday.

“The Big Screen at Fed Square enables the collective voice of the people of Melbourne to be sent to one of our most loved personalities – Molly Meldrum – wishing him a speedy recovery,” Fed Square spokesman Jane Sydenham Clarke.
