Pope: Gay marriage a ‘threat to humanity’
Pope Benedict XVI has identified gay marriage as one of the biggest threats to the traditional family and “the future of humanity itself”.
The comments were made in a new year address to the diplomatic corps accredited to the Vatican, Reuters reports.
Addressing social and economic issues, he told diplomats from nearly 180 countries that pride of place goes to the family “based on the marriage of a man and a woman”.
“This is not a simple social convention, but rather the fundamental cell of every society,” he said.
“Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself.”
The Vatican and international Catholic officials have long fought moves to legalise gay marriage around the world and opposed social acceptance of homosexuality and same-sex relationships.

perhaps he forgets goose-stepping all around Berlin in his Hitler Youth shorts… coz THAT wasnt a threat to humanity!
Typical,but this isn’t something new from the Catholic Church,the Catholic Church has always tried to preach what they think is right or wrong.
Can the Pope or his Rep here in Australia please give their Views on the Situation were heterosexuals are shunning their Religions and having a Civil Union,minus the Church.
Why is this huge Issue being ignored by Churches? And the Pope?
Lastly why has the Pope decreed that Catholic Hetrosexuals are permitted to now use Condoms in Marriage,yes marriage, Isn’t that a Sin and Insult to God & Holy Marriage?

Ratzinger is trying to get people to unite against Gay Marriage, rather than his own short commings. He is trying to create a common enemy to unite the flock, so the focus is on getting us killed. What else do you do to the greatest threat to humanity?
Would the Kingdom of Heaven really be filled with people who did nothing while people died? Would it really have a bloke who tried to incite mass murder on innocent people, simply because they sought equal Civil Rights? There are so many good Catholics, who are just as appalled with Ratzinger as we are. I am not going to blame them for the actions of Ratzinger. During the days when AIDS was devastating our community, and some in the Church were crying it is Gods revenge, I saw many good priest and nuns who helped some of my dearest friends, and their families.
This Pope had no problem demonstrating to the world his inhumanity as a Hitler Youth member, and worked around Jewish slaves from Dachau, making tanks and traps. He was not an objector to their treatment. After the war he claimed he had no choice, but he did. Some locals in Traunstein, like Elizabeth Lohner, 84, whose brother-in-law was sent to Dachau as a conscientious objector, dismiss such suggestions. “It was possible to resist, and those people set an example for others,” she said. “The Ratzingers were young and had made a different choice.”
There are just over 1500 Catholic Priest left in Australia, and a fifth are imported. The average age is 68. Ratzinger has in my view, committed a crime against humanity. He is greatly damaging the reputation of the many good people in the Catholic Church. It is sad to watch such cruelty, such inhumanity, and such a destructive force, rip the Church apart and further alienate the community.

if gay marriage is a threat to society, how is it that the killing of thousands of protestants is not? remember the Inquisition? The crusades? etc. the catholic church is one of the evilest religions filled with hate.
I am amazed in fact I’m gob smacked as we used to say in Yorkshire, why, you may well ask? I’m amazed because I hadn’t realised when I wok up this morning next to my partner of ten wonderfully happy years that we were a threat to anyone let alone a threat to humanity.
On afar more serious note it scares me to think that anyone could think this way, why? Because the last man to say that a significant minority were a threat to humanity went on to try and exterminate the threat in warped murderous assault that killed millions. He also wanted to save humanity at least white anglo saxon humanity. We should remember those who died during his regime because he not only killed Jews he also killed gay men in his gas chambers, on the end of piano wire and those who died facing SS firing squads.
We should not let this message of hate and utter intolerance go un answered we must stand up we must be counted before another mad man who an to save the world from homosexuality is born.
Surely it is the current Pope, with his narrow-minded black-and-white thinking on many issues which affect society that is the greatest threat to the continued evolution of humanity, rather than some change in the laws governing marriage.
