Johnston makes top US list
Gay former Victorian hockey player Gus Johnston has been included in OUT magazine’s list of 100 compelling people for 2012. He’s in good company on the US gay publication’s list, which includes Elton John and husband David Furnish, and British actor Simon Callow.
Since his ground-breaking YouTube video, which sensitively documented the reality of homophobia in sport and his personal journey of coming out, Johnston has become an ambassador for the Fair go, sport! initiative which encouraged hockey clubs to don rainbow socks and wristbands in July as part of a push to encourage teams and other sports to be more inclusive.
