It Gets Better drops Pistorius
Olympic and Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been dropped as one of the South African celebrities featured in a local “It Gets Better” campaign against anti-gay bullying.
The double-amputee is currently out on bail awaiting trial in a South African court after he admitted shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29, while she was in his home earlier this month. He claims he mistook her for an intruder.
He was shown in the video – which features high-profile figures giving support to gay teenagers – saying, “Just remember that you’re special. You don’t have to worry. You don’t have to change. Take a deep breath and remember it will get better”.
Last week, the campaign’s organiser, Andrew Barry, confirmed that Pistorius was no longer part of the campaign “given the recent circumstances,” The Guardian reported.
