A safe space for a Queer Prom

Twenty10 has teamed up with the City of Sydney and CampOut to hold this year’s Queer Prom formal dance on February 16.

The free event will give same-sex attracted and gender-diverse young people the opportunity to attend a high school formal with their preferred partner in a safe and supportive environment.

Young people from the groups are putting together the final touches for the event, which will be held at Marrickville’s Red Rattler theatre.

There will be DJs and live performances as well as a photo booth, mocktails, and a chill-out room.

“I’m looking forward to the night and it will be a great opportunity for young people, who are not normally considered in the planning of most events, to have a night designed by and for them,” Queer Prom team member Chris said.

People aged 12-26 are invited to attend the drug- and alcohol-free event at 6 Faversham St, Marrickville, which will run from 6-10pm.

A minibus will operate between the Twenty10 building, at 22 Bedford St, Newtown, and the Red Rattler all night from 6pm. A note with departure times will be posted on Twenty10’s front door.
