Action call on QLD civil unions bill

Action call on QLD civil unions bill

Community members have been urged by PFLAG Australia national spokeswoman Shelley Argent to write to the Queensland Government in support of Deputy Premier Andrew Fraser’s Civil Partnership Bill after the Australian Christian Lobby flooded the public consultation process on the bill with over 300 letters.

So far the consultation has only received 7 submissions from within the LGBTI community.

People only have until the end of today to make their views heard on the issue.

“Please write, even if its only two sentences,” Argent wrote on Facebook just after 1pm.

“This must be done today … Please state that you are in full support of this legislation but it should not be seen as a substitute for marriage.”

Submissions can be sent to [email protected]

  1. Brenty:

A conscience vote on gay and lesbian rights reflects the history of gay and lesbian reform in the ALP – and most of the reforms won in parliaments have been the result of a conscience vote by both parties.

  2. I am waiting for the ALP conference with great interest. There are going to be a lot of disappointed people if the ALP decide on a conscience vote to please the vast number of conservatives in their party! Oh well, a good education will be had about the ALP and how they work! Time will tell about how interestd dthe ALP are about furthering social justice and human rights?

  3. Shame again.

    No submission was ever mentioned.

I wonder why????? Maybe it’s because Queensland is so laid back and strongly resists any change.

  4. It’s a shame we didn’t know earlier that we had the opportunity to make submissions – but fortunately I got to make one just in time :)
