Greens move on equality

Rhiannon launched a Private Member’s Bill this week aimed at changing the Anti-Discrimination Act.

The current act provides exemptions for private schools and businesses with fewer than six employees, effectively allowing organisations to discriminate against employees or applicants on grounds of sexuality, gender, age, race or disability.

“Private and religious schools have used their exemption from the Anti-Discrimination Act to adopt discriminatory employment practices,” Rhiannon said.
