Relationship workshop

Share |

A same-sex relationship workshop has been launched at Uclinic in Surry Hills.
Uclinic psychologist Caroline Powell and Professor Kerryn Phelps will present the five-week workshops, Creating Relationships That Last.
While maintaining a lasting relationship can be difficult for people of all sexual persuasions, Powell said, there are more challenges for gay and lesbian people.
Both social and internalised homophobia can impact on a relationship, as well as family pressures and the lack of visible role models of healthy gay relationships.
There are also fewer opportunities to meet others in the gay and lesbian community, and a culture of not talking about relationships in the workplace, Powell added.
Phelps said she had run a number of workshops at Uclinic, but this was the first specifically directed at the gay and lesbian community.
“I believe workshops are a fantastic way of educating people about strategies for improving the quality of life,” she said.
The workshops will be held from 6pm to 7.30pm, beginning on 14 November. Bookings: 9332 0400 or sarah@uclinic.com.au.
