German singer-songwriter Ayo’s music — always terribly worthy without doing much to excite the listener — gets a welcome shot in the arm on this, her third album. She goes some way to shrugging off the tag of ‘coffee shop music’ on songs like the raw, impassioned first single I’m Gonna Dance (with its memorable line ‘I wanna live, I wanna give, I wanna have sex’). At 16 songs, the album drags — particularly during the abundance of acoustic ballads — but there’s a newfound spark to Ayo’s music that will hopefully continue on future albums.
