Baillieu to attend Midsumma

Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu will attend the Midsumma Carnival this Sunday, January 16.

The Liberal leader is set to appear and speak at the outdoor event which marks the start of Melbourne’s largest annual gay and lesbian festival.

The Carnival will be held at Birrarung Marr along the Yarra and is one of the three-week festival’s most popular events.

  1. Bronwyn Pike has been a great champion of our Civil Rights. She is someone who wants and inclusive society, someone who supports equality.

Ted is not battling for us in the Liberal Party like Bronwyn Pike did in the Labor Party. You earn respect by supporting legislation that supports equality. That does not discriminate against us. Not by advocating against us.How does that show respect?

I am sorry but advocating for fundamentalist Christian hate groups etc does not show me respect. It does not help Australia.

  2. James:-

Thousands of children will face uncertainty and insecurity because adoption laws in Victoria don’t recognise a same-sex parent.

Here in NSW we have a Premier who publicly supported same-sex adoption. The legislation got through because Keneally made a stand – despite opposition in her own party.

Public support is more than turning up at a Lesbian or Gay event. it is about supporting equal rights.

Baillieu is no friend of gays and lesbians – his record on same-sex parents makes that clear.

  3. James you are factually not correct.

Marriage, is not the same as a State based gay partnership registry like we have for animals. Civil Unions are not Marriage. Ted advocates against our Civil Rights by supporting laws that exclude us from Marriage and adoption, and supports religious hate groups that do great damage to the community. But perhaps you do not want to talk about the reality of Ted Baillieu and his message of intolerance. A walk in Pride might do it for you, but I want laws that are just, that are inclusive. Not the foul stench of intolerance that is the Liberal National Party.

Ted Baillieu’s policy creates suffering and misery for children who need to be adopted. It condemns them to grow up without a loving home when one is available.

The Liberals and National Party do not support equality. They do not support the Civil Rights of people in the GLBTI community. They support laws that are not just and oppress people.

  4. “Why be so hateful? Ted Baillieu has publicly shown his support for our community even though many in his party is against it, to me that shows guts.

Actually your facts are incorrect, Ted is on the record since 2006 as supporting gay partnership rights including civil-unions.

I think it is great to finally have a leader in this state who is willing to stand up and support us publicly. No Labor premier has ever appeared at Pride march or Carnival and Ted agreed to in his first year!”

  5. Ted Baillieu’s election campaign was a deluge of abuse against Same-Sex attracted parents. Over and over in interview after interview he said he did not support Same-Sex attracted people adopting children. He said they were not ideal as parents.

You can foster the most fragile and needy children in Victoria if you are Same-Sex attracted, but you cannot adopt. Although thousands of children in Victoria have Same-Sex parents, Same-Sex couples cannot adopt. The Victorian Premier believes adoption is about the sexuality of a person, not the ability to be a good parent and provide a loving home. I ask big brave bastards like Ted Baillieu why do you condemn children who cannot be adopted to childhood of no love.

As far as Same-Sex Marriage goes, Ted supported the John Howard- Same-Sex attracted people should have their Civil Rights violated and be denied access to a Civil Marriage.

Ted Baillieu’s deputy of hate, Peter Ryan, the leader of the National Party, has said in response to a question about what the National Party policy on GLBTI was, “What you do in your bedroom is your business”.

Now I am not in favour of an utter bastard like Ted Baillieu using the symbolism of Midsummer to advocate against our rights. He supports government funded services run by religious institutions discrimination against, denying us jobs, denying us access to services simply due to our sexuality.

We must remember Ted is seeking to use Midsummer to get votes. But remember he is the one who is so cruel that he advocates against you marrying your love, and thinks you are not fit to be a parent simply due to your sexuality. He supports laws that deny you Civil Rights simply due to your sexuality. His party, the Liberal Party, has openly supported the Australian Christian Lobby.

Civil and political rights are a class of rights that protect individuals’ freedom from unwarranted infringement by governments and private organizations, and ensure one’s ability to participate in the civil and political life of the state without discrimination or repression.

Clearly the Victorian Premier does respect you or your Civil Rights as he advocates against them.
