Bears kick a fundraising goal
More than 250 people jammed the Flinders Hotel on Friday night as the Harbour City Bears put their collective fur to good use to raise money for the Sydney Rangers Football Club.
The Rangers are hoping to emulate the Convicts by coming home with the trophy at the International Gay Football Association (IGFA) World Cup in the UK this year, and the fundraiser was one of the first steps towards raising the money needed to realise that dream.
It was the first time the Bears had thrown their support behind a sporting team, with club president Phillip Penwright saying he was pleased with the results of the night.
It was nice to see the Bear community come out and support Sydney Rangers FC, he told Sydney Star Observer. We raised $750 on the night.
Penwright said the Bears would host a special Bears Do Pyjamas night in the coming months to raise money for ACON. Keep your eyes on SSO for more details.
