BGF fundraisers to take on Heartbreak Hill

BGF fundraisers to take on Heartbreak Hill

If you don’t feel like running the City to Surf solo this year, join up with team Bobby Goldsmith to make sure your efforts go towards a worthy cause and to take advantage of the pre-race reception being held before participants take on the 14km course.
On Sunday 10 August an estimated 70,000 people will take part in the City to Surf fun run, many of whom will be taking on Heartbreak Hill in the name of a chosen charity.
AIDS charity the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation is looking for eager volunteers of any fitness level to come on board with their running team to raise sponsorship funds to help people living with HIV.
Rob Milne and Lisa Usher have already put their names and running sneakers forward to take part, but more are needed.
I normally run in summer and autumn and take winter off, but I’ve extended my training to include my first City to Surf, to show my support for the amazing work BGF do with people living with HIV, Milne said.
I’ve been training for three weeks and while I’m confident in finishing the race, my main concern is trying to raise as much money as I can for BGF while educating others on the work they do.
For anyone who comes on board as a team runner, there will be a pre-race function held at the BGF offices before the race where entrants will be issued with an official BGF branded singlet to wear and a water bottle as well as some light refreshments before taking on the task.
If running isn’t your thing, however, you can still show support for team BGF by becoming a race sponsor for one of the runners.

  1. It is great to see health meeting disease in a head to head show down. The focus for many health issues has for too long been on patching up after illness, disease, injury or disuse (the commonest of all) without targeting prevention.

ACON & BGF are tackling this head on and get my vote for taking positive steps to link fitness to provide for those dealing with HIV. The better educated we are the more we understand the needs of our bodies, minds and spirits in providing meaningful, healthy and exciting lives. Keep up the great work guys.
