Boys Don’t Cry – Rumer

Boys Don’t Cry – Rumer

Rumer’s 2010 debut album Seasons Of My Soul was deeply unfashionable in the best way possible — steeped in the tasteful sounds of ’70s AM radio pop and sung to perfection by the crooner who, yes, sounds almost exactly like Karen Carpenter at times.

For her swiftly released follow-up, Rumer (aka Sarah Joyce) has delved even further into her influences, creating an album made entirely of covers of songs written and sung by male performers from the 1970s. It works thanks to her impeccable song selection, which wisely eschews the bigger hits of acts like Isaac Hayes and Todd Rundgren for lesser-known gems on which she can more easily imprint her own interpretation. All up, it’s a stunning collection that’ll more than tide fans over until Rumer’s ready for another album of self-penned songs.

  1. Rumer is SO gifted as a singer and as a songwriter. She is also incredibly versatile. Both of these albums are wonderful!
