CAPTAIN America star Sebastian Stan has weighed in on the fan campaign for his character Bucky Barnes to be romantically involved with his best friend, Steve Rogers aka Captain America.

It’s safe to say that Captain America: Civil War has captured the imaginations of fans across the world since its release. Marvel’s latest instalment in the superhero blockbuster franchise has done big business at the international box office, taking well over a billion US dollars since the premiere in April.

While these comic book adaptations are being well received on the critical and commercial fronts, a lot has been written about the lack of diversity and representation of LGBT people in these lucrative films.

A popular discussion in recent weeks suggested a new interpretation of the long standing friendship between Captain American and Bucky Barnes. Fans have boldly advocated the possibility of exploring a romance of the same sex persuasion between the two.

Stan – the actor behind Bucky Barnes – has weighed in on the fan theory.

“Look, man, I think it’s great,” Stan said in a recent GQ interview.

“Movies are for people to relate to in whatever way they want. No one here is ever going to point a finger and say what’s right and wrong.”

Though Stan respects this interpretation of Bucky, it’s not how he approaches the role.

“I don’t think of the character that way, though. But there’s no right or wrong answer,” he said.

Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, has echoed similar sentiments in the past.

“That wouldn’t be so bad,” Evans told Flickering Myth.

“It’s just never been part of my approach to the character. My subtext didn’t involve that dynamic.”
