Alan Cumming marries partner
Actor Alan Cumming has married his partner Grant Shaffer in New York City.
The Tony award-winning Scottish star of X-Men 2, Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion and The Good Wife had a UK civil partnership with Shaffer five years earlier.
“On the 5th anniversary of our wedding in London, Grant and I tied the knot again in NYC!!!” Cumming wrote on Twitter.
At the time of their first union, Cumming, who is an American citizen, said he would have loved to have married in his adopted home.
“As residents of America we would have loved to marry there, but we hope that soon the civil rights that we have been afforded in the U.K. will be available to all gay Americans, and we look forward to celebrating not only our marriage, but the end of prejudice,” he said in a statement at the time.
New York legalised same-sex marriage in June, 2011, the sixth US state to do so.
