Adele equals Madonna
Adele’s sophomore album 21 has notched up its 9th week at number one on the UK album chart, equalling the record Madonna set for the longest stretch on top by a female solo artist with 1990’s Immaculate Collection.
Not only is
the soulful singer’s critically acclaimed offering dominating the charts, it continues to sell huge numbers – shifting a further 156,000 copies this week to take the total to just under 1.5 million sold.
At this rate 21 is on track to become one of the highest selling albums in UK chart history.
And the English songbird is having just as much fun on the singles chart.
This week her devastating break-up ballad Someone Like You spends its 5th week at number one – making it one of the biggest hits of 2011.
