Billboard brings back awards

The 2011 Billboard Music Awards were held in Las Vegas this morning after a five year hiatus.

Britney and Rihanna opened the show with a performance of their number one hit S&M before the awards giving began in earnest.

Unlike other award ceremonies, Billboard honours are based on chart sales so there were not a lot of surprises when to the winners.

Justin Bieber and Eminem nabbed six awards each while Taio Cruz, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry all took home three trophies.

Beyoncé was also acknowledged as the biggest star of the new millenium with a special award.

Despite scoring seven consecutive US top 10 hits, Ke$ha failed to win anything but her performance of Animal/Blow (below) was a highlight of the ceremony.
