Brit Awards round up

The 2011 Brit Awards – the English equivalent of the Grammys – were held in London today.

Unlike the Grammys, no particular person dominated the proceedings with only rapper Tinie Tempah scoring multiple awards.

He won nods for Best British Breakthrough Artist and Single Of The Year for Pass Out, while hip hop/soul sensation Plan B and folk singer Laura Marling were named Best British Male and Best British Female Artist respectively.

The international awards were just as evenly spread.

Justin Bieber can console himself for losing out to Esperanza Spalding at the Grammys with his Brit for International Breakthrough Act and Arcade Fire proved their Grammy win was no fluke by snagging Best International Album for The Suburbs.

The performance of the night (below) definitely belonged to Rihanna but not for the reasons she would like.

Riri’s medley of Loud hits was panned for being out of tune and often inaudible. Her award for Best International Female Artist will no doubt soothe some of her pain.

Here is the full list of winners:
British Male Solo Artist: Plan B
British Breakthrough: Tinie Tempah
International Album: Arcade Fire, The Suburbs
Critics Choice Award: Jessie J
International Male Solo Artist: Cee Lo Green
British Single: Tinie Tempah, Pass Out
International Group: Arcade Fire
International Breakthrough Act: Justin Bieber
British Female Solo Artist: Laura Marling
International Female Solo Artist: Rihanna
British Group: Take That
British Album: Mumford & Sons, Sigh No More

So was Rihanna really that bad?
