Celebs get behind Obama announcement

Ellen DeGeneres gave President Barack Obama a standing ovation on her daytime talk show in US today for his powerful words of support for marriage equality.

She was one of many gay and gay-friendly celebrities to add their voice to the chorus of support for the president’s announcement.

Ricky Martin, Jane Lynch and Neil Patrick Harris were among those quick to commend Obama.

“I applaud [Obama] for affirming that ALL Americans should enjoy equal rights. Historic!” Martin wrote on Twitter.

Comedian Roseanne Barr noted her personal connection to the issue.

“I have two gay siblings that have been in long term family relationships for over 25 yrs each… marriage equality is pro family!” she wrote.
