James Duke Mason, out actor and son of 80s pop icon Belinda Carlisle, has launched the Trailblazer Campaign – an initiative that encourages gay actors and musicians to come out of the closet.

The Trailblazer Campaign is already attracting support from some of Hollywood’s biggest names with videos from Chad Allen, David Moretti, Perez Hilton, Mike Manning and Sandra Bernhard reportedly on their way.

“[My] goal is essentially to help create a more accepting environment for openly gay entertainers in Hollywood so that eventually we might have our very own ‘Sidney Poitier,’ our own trailblazer who breaks the barrier for LGBT people,” James says.

The 18-year-old is a vocal LGBTI activist and the youngest person ever to be featured in The Advocate’s “Forty Under 40” List.

Watch James eloquently explain the Trailblazer Campaign below.

Belinda must be very proud!
