Comics speak out for Youth Week

An all-star line-up of Aussie comedians have shown support for anti-homophobia campaign It Gets Better for National Youth Week.

Filmed during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (which closes this week), the six-minute video features messages from 16 comics including Wil Anderson, Peter Helliar, Claire Hooper, Hannah Gadsby, Geraldine Hickey, Justin Hamilton and Wes Snelling.

It Gets Better Australia national director Jamison Parker said the video was an important message to young people who feel marginalised.

“We are so excited that the Australian comedy community have donated their time to come together to do an It Gets Better video,” Parker said.

“We appreciate these comedians sharing their stories and hope that their message brings some comfort to young Australians who are going through rough times in their lives.”

The Australian chapter of the successful online anti-homophobia campaign has been running since last year.

National Youth Week runs from April 13 – 22.
