Daniel Radcliffe: gay sex “painful” the first time

Daniel Radcliffe has certainly come along way from Hogwarts with his latest film Kill Your Darlings. In a recent interview Radcliffe spoke of his intimate gay sex scene with co-star Dane DeHan and the direction given from writer-director John Krokidas.

“I was talked through it by the director,” Radcliffe said. “He would be telling me what I would be feeling in each take. Basically, gay sex, especially for the first time, is really fucking painful.”

Krokidas said that he had never seen someone’s first time having gay sex portrayed accurately on film before.

“He wanted it to look like an authentic loss of virginity,” Radcliffe said.

In the film Radcliffe plays gay poet Allen Ginsberg as a young college student who falls for Columbian University classmate Lucien Carr.

  1. For me, straight sex (penetrative) is painful. Gay sex is lovely and enjoyable. Each to their own…

  2. I agree, Anthony. Im not speaking on behalf of anyone else but my experience was amazing at age 20. I dont remember pain. I remeber the excitement and ecstacy of it. I may have winced once or twice but I dont recall that. Perhaps the character Daniel plays, has a completely different experience to the one I had but I certainly hope its not played up.

  3. Gross oversimplification!

Maybe if its two peoople who both have no idea then it could be “really fucking painful”, but unless thats what you’re into sex is about pleasure. I guess everyone – no matter how experienced – have had times when things were rushed and ouch! But done right, even the first time, it can be really fucking excellent

  4. Gross oversimplification, anyone? What’s “gay sex”? Is it any more painful than “straight sex”? I doubt it. In which case, why don’t you shut up?

My first experiences of what I consider “gay sex” were actually very pleasant. I’ve very rarely considered sex painful. Am I just lucky, or is Daniel talking out of his arse?
