Elton John to marry David Furnish under new UK law in low key wedding

WEDDING bells are certainly in the air for gay and lesbian celebrity couples this week with Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish announcing they will head to the altar to be married next month.

The couple have been in a British civil partnership for eight years, and will walk down the aisle in May in what Furnish described as a quiet event.

“I think what we’ll do is go to a registry office in England in May, and take the boys [the couple’s two children: Zachary, 3, and Elijah, 16 months] with us, and a couple of witnesses,”

This will be quite the opposite to the couple’s 2005 ceremony, which cost $2 million and had more than 650 guests.

Speaking with the Las Vegas Review Journal, Furnish described the step from civil partnership to married couple as :”We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example.”
