Gay actors and LGBTI-themed TV shows win awards at the 2015 Emmys

AMERICAN television’s night of nights, the 2015 Emmy Awards, has concluded with the LGBTI community taking home four of the awards.

Actor Bradley Whitford took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as a trans woman on Amazon’s Transparent.

Meanwhile, fellow Transparent cast member Jeffrey Tambor won Outstanding Lead Actor for a Comedy for his role as trans woman Mort. This is the second year in a row Tambor has won this award for the same role and in his acceptance speech this year, he dedicated his award to the trans* community.

“I’d like to dedicate my performance and this award to the transgender community,” he said.

“Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your courage. Thank you for your stories. Thank you for our inspiration. Thank you for letting us be part of the change.”

Openly-gay actor and Glee star Jane Lynch won the Emmy for Outstanding Host For A Reality or Reality-Competition for Hollywood Game Night.

Finally, Orange is the New Black actor Uzo Aduba took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role as Crazy Eyes.
