In an interview with Chelsea Handler on hit tv chat show Chelsea Lately Stephen Amell, that hunk from the tv series arrow, but more famously remembered by the gay community for his role in Dante’s Cove. Has responded to the chat show hosts question:
‘I just want to clarify that you are straight and people should not hit on you if they’re men.’
”People can hit on me if they want to.’ Cue massive applause from the audience. For the record Amell is straight, happily married (to a woman) and still celebrating the birth of this three week old baby.
Amell was also asked about his roll in Dante’s Cove and his minor roll in Queer as folk playing a gay spin instructor, to which he replied:
‘I was the villain because I was the straight character (Dante’s Cove). I couldn’t do the show the second season and in the second season my character went from not gay to really, really, really gay.’
At the time he was also cast in Queer as Folk.
‘I was a spin instructor at the time – still straight,’ he said, feeling he should have an inside track. ‘It was my first acting job.’
In other interviews Amell has stated that if he didn’t land the Queer as Folk role he would have quit acting then and there. From the celebrity entertainment desk here at the Star, we thank you the casting people of Queer as Folk … Thank you!
