J Lo’s On The Floor – a rip off?

J Lo’s On The Floor – a rip off?

Jennifer Lopez has ruled Australian radio and dancefloors for the past couple of weeks with her number one smash On The Floor, but another diva has accused the American Idol judge of stealing the song from her.

Kat DeLuna is probably best known in this country for her 2007 top 20 hit Whine Up but the Dominican diva has kept a much higher profile in Europe, scoring several big hits since then – the most notable being Party O’Clock, which reached the top 20 in Belgium late last year.

That track was produced by RedOne – the man behind Jenny’s comeback anthem – and bears a striking resemblance to On The Floor.

It’s so similar that Kat called up the New York Daily News to vent her frustration: “I’ve seen this before, where the more established artist tries to take the vision and artistic ideas away from an emerging artist, and assumes no one will notice because of their bigger shadow.”

“Luckily, my loyal fans and the power of the Internet have let the ‘Kat’ out of the bag.”

At least she hasn’t lost her sense of humour!

Accusations of plagiarism in music are becoming increasingly common as everyone tries to jump on the latest trend but there are a lot of similarities between the songs.

They have identical subject matter, similar beats and even some of the same lyrics (both talking about partying in Ibiza and Africa).

Maybe J Lo should send Kat some flowers or get her a gig on Idol as a thank you.

Check out both songs below and decide for yourself if Ms DeLuna has a right to be angry.
