Joel’s a celebrity… how long will he last in the jungle?

THE much-hyped reality TV show I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here that launched on Channel 10 last night surprised viewers with a cast of celebrities that included openly-gay comedian Joel Creasey, who only last week denied he was part of the show.

The debut episode attracted 1.57 million viewers nationally last night, ranking fourth place in the overall TV ratings for Sunday night free-to-air TV.

Speaking to Fairfax Media last week, Creasy said he was “flattered that people think I’m doing it, but no. I’m loving the free publicity … Can you imagine me in the jungle? I’d get a rash”.

Creasey got off to an awkward start during the introductions of the celebrities in the opening minutes of the show, as he and several cast members did not know model Tyson Mayr nor Maureen McCormick of 1970s Brady Bunch fame was.

Speaking via video on his Facebook page, Joel apologised to the people who he lied to about going to LA instead of the jungle, and asked for support on social media, where one of his friend and fellow comedian Thomas Jaspers (aka Rhonda Butchmore) is tweeting on his behalf.

The second episode of the show will air at 7.30pm tonight.

Viewers can vote for their favourite celebrity to stay in the show via the Channel 10 website or on social media.
