kd sings it loud this Sunday

Singer songwriter and lesbian icon kd lang will perform on the season finale of Channel 7’s Sunday Night program this weekend. lang recorded an intimate three-song set and fan Q&A at iconic Sydney venue The Basement earlier this week, and the Star Observer can reveal that she was in fine form.

Seven News presenter and host of Sunday Night Chris Bath was on hand to foster the Q&A, describing lang’s performance – including a stunning take on Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and a playful cover of the Little River Band’s Reminiscing – as ‘perfection’.

Many members of lang’s devoted lesbian fanbase were in the audience, including one woman who revealed it had taken her half-a-dozen glasses of wine to summon up the courage to take the microphone and pledge her love to the singer. Another woman asked lang if she gave much thought to how her sexuality came across in her music, particularly given the strident lyrics on her new album, Sing It Loud.

“When I wrote the words ‘I’ll be your Daddy’ in my song I Confess I was being more butch and playful,” lang told her.

“And obviously sexuality is a piece of the puzzle of me, but I’m not provoking that when I’m singing with Tony Bennett!”

  1. I wish I could have been there. I have followed kd’s career since almost the beginning. And unlike the one lovely lady who needed 6 glasses of wine to express her feelings for kd, i if asked would have just told her. I’m also a musician and she inspires a great deal of my work. I sometimes feel we have led paralell lives with the exception of marriage and children. Now I’m pursuing what i like to do most. My music. My dream is for kd to perhaps critique and sing one of my songs.
She has helped me through some really tough times just because she sings so well and shares with all of us; her gift of music. In my humble opinion, k.d. lang is a great singer because she becomes her music.
