Latina supermodel Patricia Velasquez comes out as gay

VENEZUELAN supermodel and actress Patricia Velasquez has publicly come out as a lesbian in her new memoir Straight Walk.

Regarded as one of the first supermodels from Latin America, Velasquez said she decided to come out in order to tackle prejudice in region.

“I want to at least start a dialogue,” she said in her book.

“The tide is changing.”

Velasquez said it was a chance meeting with comedian Sandra Bernhard at a fashion show, that led her to realise she is a lesbian.

The model, who has graced the pages of Sports Illustrated and the catwalks for Victoria’s Secret, said she and Bernhard dated.

“I was deeply in love with Sandra… in a way I’d never experienced before,” she wrote.

After the relationship ended, Velasquez wrote about how she cried for two years.

Velasquez is set to star in upcoming drama-mystery Guys Reading Poems.
