Lesbian country music star gets hitched

Lesbian country singer Chely Wright married her long-time girlfriend, activist Lauren Blitzer, at the weekend

The women got hitched Saturday in front of 200 guests at Blitzer’s Aunt’s home in Connecticut.

Both brides donned traditional white gowns, yet decided to not wear veils.

The couple also had both a rabbi and a reverend officiate – since Wright is Christian, but Blitzer is Jewish.

Wright told People magazine of the big event: “The freedom of being out and open about who I am allowed me to find and fall in love with Lauren – the most amazing woman I’ve ever known.”

She tweeted an image of herself and Blitzer in their gowns at the wedding (pictured left).

The country music star made headlines when she came out in May, 2010.

Wright had initially said she didn’t want to be the first country music artist to acknowledge his or her homosexuality, but later decided to reveal all.

“Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out,” she said at the time.
