Magic speaks out on gay son

Basketball icon Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. has come out in support of his openly gay 20-year old son, Earvin Johnson III.

“Cookie and I love EJ and support him in every way. We’re very proud of him,” Johnson told gossip site TMZ.

“I told him, ‘Hey, we are here to support you, man. We’re going to love you no matter who you are, what you do. We just want you to love yourself.’”

Johnson was diagnosed with HIV in 1991 at the height of his NBA career, and became a staunch advocate for LGBTI rights after his sexuality was called into question after being diagnosed with the virus.
