My Kitchen Rules contestants come out in interview

MY Kitchen Rules fans had a surprise this week as contestants Carly Saunders and Tresne Middleston have come out as a lesbian couple in a recent interview with New Idea magazine.

The couple, from Newcastle in NSW, were originally promoted by the contest series as “best friend housemates”.

“We wanted to go on the show as ourselves and have people judge us on our cooking and not our sexual preference,” Saunders told New Idea.

Wanting to not disclose their relationship to the audience was respected by the show’s producers.

The couple have not revealed why they chose to come forward with their relationship now, even though they had celebrated their love two years ago in a commitment ceremony.
