Plummer gets gong for gay role

Hollywood veteran Christopher Plummer has taken out the Best Supporting Actor award at today’s Golden Globes for his role in Mike Mills’ 2011 film Beginners.

In the film, Plummer plays an elderly widower who undergoes a late-life transformation when he comes out. His happiness is shortlived, though, when he’s struck down by cancer.

The Sound Of Music legend took the opportunity to thank his co-star Ewan McGregor from the stage, saying “I want to salute my partner, Ewan, that wily Scot, Ewan `My Heart’s in the Highlands’ McGregor, that scene-stealing swine from the outer Hebrides.”
